OMEGA SCIENCE DIGEST

OMEGA SCIENCE DIGEST
Australian popular-science magazine, small- BEDSHEET size, publishing an average of 2 sf stories per issue; 37 bimonthly issues Jan/Feb 1981-Jan/Feb 1987, ed Philip Gore. The parent magazine was the US ScienceDigest, discontinued at around the same time. Though unexceptional as a science magazine, OSD was, with a circulation around 35,000, for 6 years the most important publisher of Australian short sf, printing 78 stories by Australian authors, illustrated by Australian artists such as Mark McLeod, Tony Pyrzakowski and Frantz Cantor. Authors included RussellBLACKFORD, Damien BRODERICK, Simon Brown, Sean MCMULLEN, Jack WODHAMS and, perhaps most notably, Terry DOWLING, whose popular stories in OSD attracted much local notice.
